Through this course, the knowledge I have acquired has inspired me to begin contributing more to the community and apply my newfound skills and knowledge for the betterment of society.
Throughout this school year, I have made a deliberate effort to give back to the community by actively seeking out volunteer opportunities. My volunteer work has included activities such as ensuring the safety of children through my role at the Alloa Fun Fair, supporting an organization called All Paws Rescue in their mission to reduce cat abuse and homelessness, and helping students enhance their math skills and cultivate an appreciation for the subject through my involvement in Camp I Can.
I will continue to give back to the community by volunteering more consistently during the summer break and in the upcoming school year. I have recently applied for a one-week volunteer position with the Credit Valley Conservation’s CYC (Conservation Youth Corps), where I will contribute to environmental beautification efforts such as planting trees and flowers, building shelters for turtles, creating water dams, and participating in litter clean-up. This will help ensure the well-being of the ecosystems and wildlife in our community.
Upon completing the leadership course, I gained a deep understanding of the importance of prioritizing mental health and the detrimental impact of societal stigma on mental health services and seeking help. This newfound awareness has sparked an idea to potentially organize a fundraiser in support of CAMH (The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health) in the future. CAMH is dedicated to eradicating the stigmatization of mental illness and creating a world where individuals with mental health challenges receive the comprehensive care they require and deserve. The funds raised through these initiatives contribute to vital research for mental illness treatments and the facilitation of high-quality services.
