Experiences in Class

I have had a wide range of experiences this semester in the leadership course. Two of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences were getting my CPR certification and customer service certification.

First Aid + CPR Training

During the first aid training, I acquired a diverse range of skills, including administering CPR to both adults and children, evaluating an unconscious individual, utilizing an AED, assisting in a choking emergency, recognizing the symptoms of a stroke, and creating a makeshift sling. This practical, hands-on learning experience was particularly memorable and engaging for me. I am appreciative of the opportunity to acquire such valuable knowledge on actively aiding others in life-threatening situations. Given the unpredictable nature of crises, these skills will undoubtedly remain invaluable to me for the entirety of my life.

When performing CPR on anyone 8 yrs+, you are trying to get 100 compressions per minute at a depth of 2” while breathing into the casualty's mouth every 30 compressions.

Tourniquets may be used in cases where significant blood loss is a concern. To make a tourniquet, use a strip of cloth and tie it onto the casualty's body above the wound. Then, insert a stick or rod behind the bandage against the casualty's skin. Afterward, turn the stick in one direction to tighten the cloth.

Customer Service Certification

During the customer service presentation/certification, the guest speaker truly captivated everyone. Rather than enduring a lengthy and dull presentation, the speaker made it both entertaining and engaging. One crucial takeaway from the certification is the understanding that customer service is not only about how you communicate and assist customers but also about how you present yourself. It's essential to project a professional appearance by dressing appropriately, maintaining good hygiene, exhibiting good posture, and wearing a friendly smile. This knowledge will be particularly crucial for me in the future, when I begin working, as I'll need to uphold a professional demeanour to ensure that customers have a positive experience.
