Future Plans

I know that the future is not set in stone and it is subjected to change, but for now I have a set plan and I strive to acheive it the the best of my abilities.

Grade 12 Course Selection

For my grade 12 course selection, the only mandatory course was English, and I had the freedom to choose the rest based on the prerequisites for the post-secondary programs I'm interested in. To increase my chances of getting into the various programs I'm applying for (including life sciences, health sciences, and biology), I've decided to take SCH4U0, SBI4U0, MCV4U0, MHF4U0, and SNC4M0. I'm considering dropping PSK4U0 and HZT4U0 to ensure I have one spare period each semester so I can concentrate on improving my grades.

Post-Secondary Education

After high school, I want to earn a bachelor's degree in Life Sciences. I am specifically looking at McMaster University to pursue this education. I have heard that life sciences is a great education route if you plan to go into medicine. To get into Life Sciences at McMaster, I will have to take Grade 12 English (ENG4U), Grade 12 Advanced Functions (MHF4U) -or- Grade 12 Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U),  Grade 12 Biology (SBI4U), and two additional Grade 12 university-level or university/college-level courses. I will also have to obtain an average of high 80s to low 90s.

Medical School

I want to attend the University of Toronto for medical school. I've heard great things about their medical program, which is consistently ranked as one of the best in Canada. The program is four years long and focuses heavily on research. The first-year tuition costs a total of $25,061.31 for Ontario domestic students on the St. George campus and $25,490.56 for the Mississauga campus.

Future Career

I aspire to become either a surgeon or a cardiologist. Surgeons are doctors who perform surgical procedures to treat various illnesses. Many surgeons specialize in specific areas such as cardiology, pediatrics, neurology, and orthopedics. It takes an average of 12 years to become a surgeon, which includes four years of university, four years of medical school, and four years of surgical residency. Cardiologists are physicians who specialize in diagnosing, preventing, and treating heart conditions. They are knowledgeable about the heart muscle and the blood vessels in our bodies. To become a cardiologist, one must complete four years of university or college, four years of medical school, and six to seven years of residency.
